Important Changes to the Earn More and Save Program

Part of the Boston Housing Authority’s Family Self-Sufficiency Program

In 2021, you elected to participate in the Earn More and Save program, which is a part of the Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS).  With FSS, BHA set aside savings for you when your rent share increased because your employment income increased and you have access to a financial coach with our nonprofit partner, Compass Working Capital.

After two years, we’ve decided to sunset the pilot program but are giving you an opportunity to continue on with financial coaching and building savings. You have two options:

1. Keep building savings in FSS for an additional 3-4 years. (RECOMMENDED)

You get to keep building savings and you’ll be required to meet with your Compass financial coach every six months. To select this option, you’ll need to fill out some paperwork which we can email to you. It is important to know that FSS has NO effect on your housing or your rent and you can withdraw from FSS at any time.

2. Close out your participation in FSS and receive your savings now.

If you no longer want to be in FSS, we’ll ask you to take a quick survey. Then we’ll close out your savings and mail you a check with your savings amount.

Please make your selection to continue in FSS or end your participation by December 31st, 2023.

If we don’t hear from you by December 31, 2023, we will assume you are not interested in FSS, close your account, and your funds will be forfeited.

From our Clients

Marcia

“The program made me feel encouraged to look for a job and to pay off my debt, and I’ve learned how to respond to creditors. This program is an opportunity to move forward… and call the shots in my own life.”
